Back Where it all Begins

On the side bar is a play list of my favorite songs and one of those is "Back Where it All Begins" by The Allman Brothers Band. Well that's where I was last week. I did a power trip back home to Buffalo, NY for a spring time "cast n blast" with some family and friends. In four days I was able to visit with my family, get some spring time turkey action, a little trout fishing and a few cocktails with friends!!
Wednesday morning was my first crack at the turkey's with my Dad. I was able to get the adrenaline going with some chatter with a hot gobbler. I wasn't able to bring the bird within gun range but I did come close.

The gobbler was about 50 yards from my decoy.

After a quick breakfast we headed down to our cabin in Angelica, NY.

My Dad and I arrived before the rest of the work crew so I decided to hit Black Creek that runs behind the cabin. I haven't fished this creek in almost 17 years and that was before I even started fly fishing. The flows were very low for spring time so I was slightly disappointed to find shallow runs and somewhat warm water temps.

But I did find a cut bank where a deep run might hold a fish or two. After a few minutes I landed a nice little brown. It was nice to land this fish only a few yards from where my Dad spends every deer opener.

While the trip was short it was nice to get "Back Where it all Begins". Now I'm back in the swing of the day to day waiting for a return visit.

til next time..........

Ironically, "Take Me Home, Country Roads," by John Denver was playing as I read your post. Given the theme of your story, I thought that was fitting. Glad you had a good time with your family.

It's good to get home and visit familiar places once in awhile. Thanks for sharing! Next time you'll bring home the bird!
